Best-of EasyExpat.com 2017: the worst emails received

18 December, 2017 09:00  EasyExpat EasyExpat

Just before Christmas, and to finish this year, we are publishing for the 7th year the EasyExpat Best-of list (we skipped 2016, therefore we are compiling both years here) for the funniest or most bizarre emails we have received in 2016-17.

We remind you that EasyExpat is a list of city guides for expatriates, host a public forum for the community and free services such as job listing, classifieds, general articles on expatriation (FAQ), directory of expat websites. Apparently some Internet users did not understand it!

Enjoy.  (More)

12 November, 2017 16:00  EasyExpat EasyExpat

My Life Abroad - A selection of expat stories. Book edited by DOTEXPAT LTDLast year we published our anthology of some of the best weekly expat interviews from BlogExpat.com, with every piece prefaced with a jokey illustration.

Through the final selection of interviews, it appeared that unfortunately a few of them could not make the list limited to 55 stories. However those stories were already illustrated. We have now decided to display those un-printed images.

Therefore we are now giving 2 readers the opportunity to win our illustrated paperback book if they guess the reference # of the only one picture that is really printed in the book amongst the 6 drawings below.

Though it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and technically a part of Europe, Cyprus is much closer to the southern coast of Turkey and the western coast of Syria than to the other Mediterranean countries.

This country of 1.141 million people has been a center of controversy due mostly to the troubles between the majority Greek and minority Turkish populations, as well as Greece and Turkey's frequent interference in the island's politics. (More)

Guide for expatriates in Kingston (Jamaica)

15 February, 2016 08:22  EasyExpat EasyExpat

Expat guide: Kingston, Jamaica We are proud to launch our new city guide for expatriates in Kingston, Jamaica.

Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean, just south of Cuba. On a clear day, you may see the tip of Cuba from Jamaica's north coast. The island is the third largest of the Caribbean with land area of nearly 11,000 sq km.

The country is divided into 12 parishes - each with a parish capital or main town. The capital city of Jamaica is Kingston, in the parish of the same name. Montego Bay in St James is the other city in Jamaica.

Kingston and St Andrew are two of the most urbanized parishes, and the people have a way to refer to both as Kingston. Most of the area between them, i.e. Kingston and urban St Andrew, is what is called the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA).

A little over a quarter (28%) of the 1.3 MN labour force of Jamaica is from Kingston and St Andrew. This is just about the same for the proportion (29%) of the employed labour force from those parishes. Most of the employment in the KMA is in trading, one of the key drivers of the national economy.

You will find the usual articles in our guide to prepare your expatriation to Kingston and manage your life once in there: Overview, Job, Passport, Visa & Permits, International Removal Companies, Finding Accommodation in Jamaica, Work, Benefits and Tax, Moving in, Education, Health, Practical Life (banks, transport, shopping...), Entertainment...

You can also discuss and share experience about Jamaica in our forum.

Last but not least, you can download the full guide in PDF format, in order to read quietly and maybe to upload on your mobile or tablet PC/iPad.
